Clocks stop in Santorini
The beauty of Santorini is static. There, we can feel atmosphere full of the taste of happiness . From the sunrise moring to the bright moonlight night, the whole island seemed contains Myth and fairy- tales.
During 2006 and 2007, the 2 years that i worked as a part-time tour guide for Chinese/ Taiwanese groups, i luckily got on Santorini more than 5 times each summer.
I cherish every time of stepping on the island of Santorini,
That's my favourite island in Greece.
Every small lane and cafe looks so familiar to me.
Almost all the Groups I was guiding to Santorini are the lovely Honeymoon- couple tourists. Looking at them in front of the cliff on OIA ,watching the sunset and the deep blue sea, kissing and hugging,make me a little bit lonely.
Santorini belongs to all the Lovers...
As the old Chinese saying says:
“How will you judge a beautiful view without having someone to enjoy together?”
---- " Eva, you are so lucky to stay here in Greece, you can go to Santorini as much as you want." said the tourists from my group.
Well, it looks that I occupied Santorini as my own island,stay in a single sea- view room on the cliff alone, watching at the sea on any corner of the island, don't need to worry if the tour guide need to yell at me and rush on the bus to leave...
When I took the tourists to Oia to wait for the sunset , they find a place to sit and waiting quietly.Like it's a sacred moment. The couples are whispering hand in hand. at this moment, I always choose to leave to a cafe near the cliff, take a Cappccino and saying to myself:The sunset is such a beautiful gift for me.
2007 when I was working with a Greek Media crew for a documentary on Santorini, I was so happy that I don't need to take the honey moon tourists around me this time!
Our crew got in one of the best restaurant on the cliff of Oia and ordered all the expensive food,facing at the sunset and horizon.
They serived us loboster with the best white grape wine which produced on Santorini, called " Santo wine"
....What a life!
Each part of Santorini island make me feel happy and Pleased. White cyclades style house of the neighbourhoods and blue- top orthodox churches, are as cute as the clay toys.
Here, pure and peaceful ,Calm me down unexpectedly.
Santorini island is a pure clean place, the islanders's life are simple and nature.
They take the olive by hands , they use phonebooks, use the pencil to write the numbers, although the phonebook is already really old.cats and dogs don't escape from people , they come near your foot and legs, waiting for your fandle, waiting for your careness.
The Sea, can be seen on every corner of the island.
People wallow in the luxury and desire nowadays, how many of them can just sitting here quitely thinking about life.
Our world is developing so fast that people start to lose themselves.
I got lost on Santorini island.
I always take my camera to film the place, to help to remember the road.
But here on the island,
they all look like the same.
I walk on one roof and sit on it. Watching the deep blue Aegean Sea.
I don't know which is my direction.
I don't know where I'm going to go.
I don't know why I'm here.
From Athens to Santorini, it's just a half-hour flight. I just ordered a plane ticket to come to Santorini.The air hostess are really sexy from Aegean Airlines, their Greek Smile and looks so kind.
I took an orange juice and finished it, the plane landed on the island.
There're few flowerpots on the roof.
The flowers that I have no idea what their names are.
They just sparkly opened with the backgroud of the deep blue sea color, so pretty.
I didn't intend to keep walking in the town and find my way back to the hotel, I just sit there.
This town named Oia.
Oia located on the "head" of Santorini island, facing west----people said Oia have the most beautiful sunset in the world.
The shape of Santorini island is like a moon, then Oia is like the top of the moon.
And the end of this "moon" is Akoritiri(in Greek, it means the end of the shore)----- it is called by people the "Lost Atlantics" accoring to Plato's The Republic(Republica).
The entire island of Santorini is with a high elevation, many houses and hotels are built on a cliff. The opposit of the Moon body is the famouse volcano of Santorini.
Thousands years ago, the huge explotion of the volcano distoryed the whole Minoan cilivlazation.
People said that Santorini island was a complete round island. During the huge disaster, the earth cracked, half of the land collapsed and fell into the water and stay in the bottom of the Aegean Sea forever.
The cliff is like distoryed by the sharp knife .
The White seagulls are here flying and singing.
This is just such a excellent picture of the nature.
The volcano is quietly lying down in the middle of the sea.
It looks like the disaster never happened thousands years ago.
The Aegean Sea is so calm and no wives during summer here in Greece. the whole sea view is like a cutting surface of a huge sapphire.
I would rather spend my whole life here by watching such a great view.
Life sometimes is with great fantasty.
Go to a place that no people know you, sit on the roof like me in Santorini.
Nobody knows where exactly I come from, where I belong to.I'm just a stranger, a passer , who is totally intoxicated by this island.
Calvin Klein has a perfume called ‘Eternity Moment’ which is my favorite perfume.
The name «Eternity moment" is so suitable for Santorini.
Everything on this island will never change.
The roads, shops...
Whether you went there 10 years ago, or 5 years ago, or yesterday, The Island is always like this.
It's like the clocks stop at Santorini.
Wherever you go, you can still remember :
The view you were sticking to,
The place where you laugh so loud,
The place where you had your tears fallen...
